The Šalek Valley 1941–1945

The exhibition presents the period of the Second World War in the Šalek Valley. The Šalek Valley was not on the margin of the events during the national liberation movement. Its inhabitants actively participated in the liberation movement. The occupier listed places of the city municipality of Velenje and the municipalities of Šoštanj and Šmartno ob Paki among some of the most turbulent and rebellios places in the Celje district and enforced numerous harsh measures against the national liberation movement.

The common thread of the exhibition is partisan poet Karel Destovnik – Kajuh. The exhibition also points out two national heroes – Dušan Mravljak – Mrož and Miha Pintar – Toledo. The binding element of the exhibition is the cherry blossom from Kajuh’s poem, which symbolises and singals anti-war thoughts and the message of the exhibition.
